Inaugurated in 1981, SONARA is a topping reforming (i.e. simple) type of refinery. SONARA provides the following petroleum products on the market: butane, unleaded fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, gas oil, distillate, fuel oil.

The Limbe refinery has a theoretical capacity of 2,100,000 tonnes per year. It was originally designed to process light crude (Arabian light). However, Cameroon is currently producing heavy crudes and there is a mismatch between the existing refinery tool and available crudes.
